Project 3 Cyclical Nature of Things: Progress 2

Had some more fun with these and played around a bit with different orientations of things and colors. These two were my favorite that I made. I added some blueprint elements to the first one which I thought looked neat and broke up the composition in an interesting way, and for the second one, I rearranged everything a little bit and added more "chaos" to the mix.

So instead of doing every parts of the lifecycle of a car, I decided to narrow it down to just the maintenance cycle of owning a car (taking it to a shop, ordering parts, replacing parts, etc). I took my shop pictures and messed around for a while, eventually coming up with this iteration. I wanted this to represent the chaos of working on a car in a shop, because it's not easy. Things can go awry, tools get scattered everywhere, and sometimes you have to improvise.

So I've decided to go with the lifecycle of the automobile for this project. Over the break, I did a lot of work to my car and spent a lot of time in the shop. While I was in there, I snapped some photos of the interior of the shop, underneath my car, and various parts/contraptions laying around that I thought might make a neat composition. As far as blending these images into a cohesive story regarding the lifecycle of a car, I figured that I'd break the lifecycle into stages: buying at the dealership, driving, washing, maintaining, and junkyard/repurposing. These pictures represent the maintenance stage, of the car's lifecycle, and would come after the dealership pictures found in the previous contact sheet I posted on this blog. I think these will work nicely for maintenance, but I'll have to get some more pictures for the washing, junkyard/repurposing, and driving portions of this project.

Well truth be told, I wasn't too sure what direction I wanted to steer this project, and my images are a reflection of that. When I thought about the phrase "the cyclical nature of things," many things came to my head. The first thing I thought about was the cycle of inanimate of objects like a lightbulb. So I took a little lantern and took some photos of it. Then I thought about the seasons and how nature has seasonal cycles, so I went on the parkway and took some pictures of the melting snowy landscape. I also thought about how water cycles around too, and took some stream pictures. I then thought about how cars have a lifecycle, and how that varies from car to car. So I went to Cosmo Motors in Hickory and did some car photography. And lastly, there are many cycles I go through with my pets when caring for them and keeping them happy, one of which is playing frisbee. So I got some action shots of my dogs jumping for it.
